Ruins Art Festival: Art and Culture of the Biobío Region
We are pleased to share the prominent role played by the “Ruins Art Festival” within the program “Transformation of Industrial Heritage into Regional Assets” funded by the Regional Government of Biobío and executed by CreaSur. This event has not only been a gathering of artistic expressions but also an essential link for showcasing the valuable intangible heritage of the Biobío region, enriching the understanding of arts, crafts, and traditions rooted in this land.
The “Ruins Art Festival” masterfully accompanied the “IV International and Interdisciplinary Congress on Cultural Heritage: Industrial Heritage, Social Issues, and Challenges for New Governance.” This congress, held between October 16th and 20th, 2023, in Concepción, Chile, was a crucial forum where experts, academics, and cultural heritage enthusiasts gathered to explore fundamental issues related to preserving our industrial heritage from a critical perspective.
Throughout each day of the congress, the “Ruins Art Festival” stood as a vital component, serving as a dynamic space for the presentation of various art forms: performances, music, theater, dance, traditional crafts, and unique regional handicrafts. This event not only provided a platform for local creators but also fostered the appreciation and understanding of the intangible cultural heritage that shapes the identity of Biobío.
The synergy between the congress and the festival allowed for a deep exploration of the intersections between industrial heritage, social issues, and contemporary governance challenges, masterfully interwoven by curator María José Bretti.
Discussions and exhibitions intertwined to offer a comprehensive experience that underscored the importance of preserving, understanding, and adapting our valuable cultural heritage.
